Crime conscious
Nottinghamshire residents may receive a visit from the police over the next couple of weeks, as the force looks to combat crime in the lead up to Christmas.
Running in conjunction with the national charity Crimestoppers, officers will be meeting and greeting the public, delivering leaflets and conducting high visibility patrols in key parts of the county and city.
Chairman of Nottinghamshire’s Crimestoppers, Glynn Gilfoyle, who prompted the initiative, will be joining officers on the beat, in a bid to raise people’s awareness of ways to protect themselves and their possessions from thieves.
Mr Gilfoyle said: “Crimestoppers gives people the opportunity to pass on information anonymously knowing this in turn will help inform police activity within the area.
“If local people know their community officers, it can help build trust and confidence and we also know that by giving people the right information they can make informed choices about their personal and home security.
“We want everyone to take a few seconds to think about locking up their homes, hiding away keys, removing items from display inside any vehicle and reporting any activity which seems unusual.”
A number of leaflets will be posted through letterboxes in some of the areas which have been affected by crime.
Anyone with information about those committing crime is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
