Crime in Notts continues to fall

Crime continues to fall faster in Nottinghamshire than anywhere else in the country.

All crime fell by 13% between June 2010 and June 2011, putting Nottinghamshire joint highest with Leicestershire for crime reduction.

Verified figures released by the Home Office today reveal that there were 12,619 fewer crimes than the previous year.

They also show the force has the highest reduction in house burglaries, which fell by 38% - equating to nearly 3,000 fewer victims of burglary.

Nottinghamshire also recorded the second highest reduction in robbery, down 24%, and criminal damage, which fell by 19%.

Other achievements include:

- Violence against a person (with injury) - down 27%

- Assault – down 27%

- Theft of motor vehicle – down 25%

- Vehicle crime – down 20%

- Burglary ‘other’ – down 13%

- Violence against a person - down 12%

- Sexual offences - down 11%

- Fraud and forgery – down 10%

All crime fell by 11% in Newark. Other achievements include:

- House burglary – down 30%

- Assault – down 24%

- Criminal damage – down 24%

- Drug offences – down 16%

- Vehicle crime – down 10%

In South Nottinghamshire all crime fell by 13%.

Reductions were also achieved in:

- House burglary – down 42%

- Theft of motor vehicle – down 31%

- Robbery – down 23%

- Vehicle crime – down 19%

Assistant Chief Constable Paul Broadbent said: “We have made massive inroads in reducing crime across the board and people are far less likely to be victims of crimes like burglary than they would have been just a year ago.
