A cycling club are holding a special event tomorrow (July 8) to raise money for cancer support charities.

Velo Club Flintham, in partnership with Newark Cycles, Café Velo Verde and Café Allez are holding the first Velo Vitae on Sunday from 8.30am.

Velo Vitae aims to forge a partnership between local cycling clubs, bicycle shops and cafés to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get out and cycle a 50km circular route.

Money raised from the event will go towards Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie charity.

Entry is free with full ride support is available.

The event will see cyclists ride out from Café Velo Verde at Screveton from 8.30am

Café Allez offers a half way stop off point at Belvoir Castle car park and Newark Cycles are on hand for technical support throughout.

Riders can take on a single loop or multiple loops through the day with each starting and leaving from Café Velo Verde.

The idea for the event was inspired by ‘Race for Life’ and was prompted by the impact of cancer on a number of Velo Club Flintham riders, their families and friends.

This is the first year for the event but the club hopes is that it becomes a popular event across the country – much like ‘Race for Life’ – and in doing so both gets people out riding and raises as much money as possible for direct cancer care.

The event is about participation and enjoyment, and the fund raising page is available at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/VeloVitae
