Adam Sinnott delivered his and Rebecca Clarke's baby girl at home in Cotgrave.
When Adam Sinnott's partner went into labour at home, little did he know he'd be playing a more hands-on role than he could have ever imagined.
Rebecca Clarke was a day overdue when she felt two mild contractions at home in Cotgrave just after 9pm on Friday, July 5, and she rang the hospital to ask what to do and was told to stay at home for now.
Just seconds after she hung up the phone, her waters broke while she was still standing in the kitchen and she dropped to her knees, feeling like she needed to push instantly.
Rebecca said: "When I look back, I think I'd been in slow labour all day as I'd had some backache and felt quite sleepy. I was so lucky that Adam had come home from work early that day."
Luckily Adam's mum Julie came over straight away to take the couple's two-year-old daughter Eliza, and Adam's son Louey, nine, round to their neighbour's house, and the couple rang 999 to speak to the emergency services.
But while Adam was on the phone to the call operator, the line went dead so he had to rush upstairs to grab his mobile phone instead. Luckily the operator rang back straight away and as the ambulance was still ten minutes away started to talk Adam through the delivery over the phone and was told to grab towels and a shoelace in case he needed to tie off the umbilical cord.
Rebecca said: "When they said the ambulance wouldn't get here in time I was petrified, I thought the worst would happen, but Adam was really calm and listening to what the dispatcher was saying and didn't panic."
Within minutes, the baby's head started to crown and Adam was told to get Rebecca to lie on her back as she couldn't move. Armed with a towel, Adam was the first to hold his daughter, Lottie Joan Danielle Sinnott, as she entered the world at 9.44pm, weighing 9lb 6oz. She was in labour for just 20 minutes altogether.
Rebecca said: "She wasn't crying when she first came out, it was only for seconds but to me it felt like minutes and I was so scared. Adam wrapped her in a towel to keep her warm and then she did start crying, thank goodness."
Adam said: "I was just running on adrenaline most of the time, it was only when I was holding her and saw she was a girl, because we didn't find out the sex, that I was the first to see we had a daughter.
"I'm just glad it all went fine and it was the most amazing feeling."
Rebecca and Lottie were taken to hospital to be checked over when the ambulance came, and both were given a clean bill of health.
Adam had only just launched his healthy eating business, Cheff, when they found out Rebecca was pregnant, and the couple were told they were mad to have another baby as well as starting a new business at the same time.
Adam said: "people thought we were crazy, but we've just got on with it and it's made us stronger."
