Dancing dogs have their day in music video

Dogs and their owners showcased dancing skills in a music video.

The video, for the track Love Is Magic, by surrealist indie songwriter John Grant, features the dogs and trainers dancing, spinning and jumping.

Three of the trainers in the video are from the Newark area, including Nicci Hindson, and her three red and white border collies, Leo, 12, Nala, 7, and Elsa, 2.

Nicci has been a dog trainer and walker for more than ten years.

She specialises in tricks and dancing, and won Newark’s Got Talent.

Nala is no stranger to performing for the cameras, having previously taken part in an advertising campaign for energy firm Npower.

She is currently filming for a new children’s television programme.

The music video shows the dogs and trainers dancing, and highlights the relationship between them.

Nicci said: "I was happy when we were selected to take part.

"I am always excited for any opportunity we can get to perform and was keen to be a part of it, especially because the whole idea was to make a video of dogs and humans working together.

"The dogs worked hard. It was the first time my youngest, Elsa, has taken part in something like that.

"It was nice to take her out and work with her for the video. She was good."

Nicci said the entire video was filmed in 48 hours, with the crew travelling to the homes of each dog trainer.

It took around eight hours to film her parts for the video, but Nicci was happy with the result.

"My friend texted me to say the video was out and I pulled up in a supermarket carpark to watch it.

"I was hoping they had portrayed it nicely and showed that we work hard but all have fun — and that came across.

"I breathed a sigh of relief once I had watched it.

"There are some nice moments that show the relationship between us."

Nicci said she loved doing work with her dogs.

"I have always had a passion for media and entertainment, and have always loved dogs," she said.

"To combine the two passions and be able to have a platform to showcase what we do, and how hard we work, is nice."

Nicci has had all three of her dogs since they were eight weeks-old.

Currently, she does not have any other similar work lined up.

She said: "It is like buses. Sometimes it will be quiet for a bit and then everything comes at once, so there will definitely be more things in the future."
