Dancing in tribute to Daniel
People have been posting pictures of themselves online performing a dance move that was the favourite of a six-year-old boy who tragically died just before Christmas.
Hundreds of photographs and messages of support have been left for the family of Daniel Harris.
Daniel, from Fernwood, was a keen fan of the dab dance move, and a Facebook page called #dab4Daniel was set up on Christmas Day.
It has since gained more than 6,000 members, with many posting a photograph of themselves or their children recreating the move.
This morning, Jay McGuiness - Strictly Come Dancing winner and member of The Wanted - also posted a video showing his support.
Daniel’s mother, Katrina Thompson, was among those to post a picture — of his brother, James, his half-brother, Ben, and their 90-year-old nan, performing a dab.
Writing on the page, Katrina said: “Daniel totally deserves all this love and he would be so, so loving the dabbing.
“My little dabbing superstar who dabbed in the morning, after finishing his breakfast, getting his shoes on. Finishing school he’d greet you with a dab.
“Every achievement in his day was worthy of a dab.”
Speaking about the page and the support shown, Katrina said: “You’ve made something impossible to cope with slightly bearable.”
A two-minute dab has been organised for 11am on New Year’s Day at Fernwood Playing Field. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance was called on Saturday morning and was in the Hunters Road area for around two hours.
Two police cars and an ambulance also attended.
'People will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the family'
The Facebook page was set up by Mr Iain Moulds, a friend of Daniel’s father, Mr Phil Harris.
“The page and the messages left on it are a way of showing Kat and Phil that they are not on their own,” said Iain.
“People are around who care, who will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the family.
“We have got a really good community on Fernwood, and now the support has come from outside, too.
“The page is just a mechanism to help get the family through the next few days — that was really the motivation behind it.
“To get to where we have got to on the Facebook page in such a short space of time is quite unbelievable.
“I can never remember Daniel without seeing a smile on his face, and he was always doing the dab.
“This is bringing to Kat and Phil a bit of positivity to a terrifically difficult time.”
Daniel was a football fan and those in the sport have embraced the #dab4Daniel page.
Middlesbrough striker Patrick Bamford, from Norwell, is due to feature in a photograph with his team-mates performing a dab, while the crew on Sky TV’s Soccer AM are set to do the same.
Tubes - aka Peter Dale - from Sky's Soccer AM show posted his dab on Thursday.
A Just Giving page has been set up to raise money in Daniel's memory.
The owner of Notts County, Alan Hardy, has also tweeted his support.
Former IBF cruiserweight world boxing champion Glenn McCrory has also posted a tribute.
