Advertiser readers have until 1.30pm on Monday to write cards for wounded troops so that they can be delivered in time for Christmas.

The Magnus Church of England School, Newark, has joined forces with the Advertiser in its annual Christmas appeal for troops.

Readers are asked to pen a Christmas card to an unknown wounded soldier to show them that they are appreciated, particularly at this time of year.

With the date for posting them to us past, cards can be addressed simply 'soldier' and pushed through the letterbox at the Advertiser offices on Appletongate, Newark, NG24 1JX.

Write as many cards as you would like to.

Royal Mail's Newark Delivery Office will be collecting them on Monday afternoon and will ensure they arrive at either Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, or the field hospital at Camp Bastion in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in time for Christmas.

Magnus teacher Sarah Sturgeon said: "When I have visited Newark's wounded in hospital they have always told me how much the messages from home meant to them.

"To know that someone cared enough to show their appreciation to someone they had never met and may never meet was a big lift."
