Nottingham Forest City Ground plans to be decided by Rushcliffe Borough Council, live streamed on Youtube

Plans for the expansion of Nottingham Forest's City Ground will be decided next week, writes Liam Salisbury.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s planning committee will meet a week today (Thursday, July 28) where the application is recommended for approval.

The meeting, which starts at 2.30pm, will be live-streamed on the council's YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/rushcliffebc

It is the only item on the agenda.

The plans for the redevelopment, and associated residential development, have been drawn up by Newark architects Benoys.

It will create a new Peter Taylor Stand, currently the smallest of the ground's stands, increasing the stadium capacity from 30,445 to 38,000.

This will make it the largest capacity football stadium in the East Midlands.

These plans have been in place since 2019 and follow the club's emphatic rise to England's top flight during season after a 23-year wait.

They finished last season in fourth place in the Championship.

In the play-off semi-final against Sheffield United, Forest player Brennan Johnson became only the second player in the club's history to score in both legs since his father, David, did so in 2002-03.

Forest went on to beat Huddersfield Town in the play-off final at Wembley to seal their return to the Premier League.
