Bakkavor Desserts Newark supported Newark’s Dragon Boat race on the River Trent with thousands of pounds and two participating teams to fundraise for Beaumond House and The Children’s Bereavement Centre

A desserts business invested £2,000 to support last weekend’s Dragon Boat Festival.

Bakkavor Desserts entered two teams – The Choux Chefs’ and The Barmy Bakers – for Sunday’s event which ran in aid of the Children’s Bereavement Centre and BEaumond House Hospice Care.

Monika Pilch from Bakkavor’s Newark team baked a gingerbread dragon boat which was raffled to raise extra funds for the charity.

Bakkavor also supported the Newark Community Awards by providing £900 of sponsorship and supplying desserts to all the guests during the evening’s three-course dinner.

Andrjez Szokalski, general manager of operations at Bakkavor Desserts Newark said: “It has been a full-on start to Autumn. We have been delighted to support the community and recognise the long service and community focus of many of our colleagues.

“As a major employer in Newark, we are keen for our colleagues to throw themselves into community-centred events alongside neighbours, families and co-workers.

“We have taken tremendous pride in our recent successes, from the wonderful awards evening to recognising our long-standing colleagues closer to home. For us, investing in the community and recognising our staff are one and the same thing.”

The business has a Site Employee Forum at Newark, and the colleagues from this group organise all of Bakkavor’s community and fundraising initiatives throughout the year.

The SEF rep team was invited to attend the awards night to recognise their contribution both to the business and to the community.

Bakkavor also recognised the service of some of its longest-serving colleagues, who also attended the awards evening.
