Newark born and bred British Transport Police detective made MBE in New Year Honours list




A detective with the British Transport Police was made a Member of the British Empire in the King's New Year Honours.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Goodband, of the British Transport Police and chairman, British Transport Police Federation, was made MBE for services to policing.

Detective Sergeant Goodhand, now of Formby, Merseyside, is Newark born and bred. He is married and the son of Hilda and the late Keith Goodhand and has family in the town, including daughter Hayley Bennett.

Nigel attended the Grove Comprehensive School and joined the Irish Guards straight from school and was on royal duties during his service.

He joined the British Transport Police upon leaving the Irish Guards and remains a serving police officer to this day.
