District is fastest growing in Nottinghamshire

Newark and Sherwood was the fastest growing district in Nottinghamshire in the past decade, census data has revealed.

Statistics show that the population of the district rose by 8% between 2001 and 2011 - an extra 8,500 residents.

The population of Newark and Sherwood now stands at 114,800, with 56,500 men and 58,300 women. Only Ashfield has a bigger population out of the seven Nottinghamshire districts.

The number of households in the district increased by 4,300, a 9.7% rise. A total of 48,800 households with at least one usual resident were recorded in the census.

The overall population of Nottinghamshire rose by 5% up to 785,800, an increase of 37,300 from 2001.
