Rapist Stewart Carlisle, of Newark, jailed after repeatedly assaulting teenage boy

Damning DNA evidence found on two sets of underwear has helped put a rapist behind bars, after he carried out repeated sexual assaults on a teenager.

Stewart Carlisle, 30, formerly of Newark, was found guilty of four counts of rape, and five counts of sexual activity with a child after his week-long trial at Nottingham Crown Court last October, and was sentenced early this year.

Carlisle was arrested in December 2023, after his victim reported a series of sexual assaults over a five month period.

He denied the allegations and claimed he had never had any sexual contact with the boy, but during his trial jury members were presented with compelling DNA evidence from two pairs of boxer shorts.

The findings strongly supported key details of the victim’s account and fatally undermined Carlisle’s defence.

As well as the sexual offences, was also found guilty of aggravated vehicle taking and perverting the course of justice — charges that relate to an attempt to coerce the victim into withdrawing the allegations.

Appearing at Derby Crown Court on Friday (January 31), Carlisle was jailed for 15 years.

He was also added to the sex offenders’ register for life and handed a restraining order forbidding any further contact with his victim.

Detective Constable Richard Howe said: “Like many young people in this situation, the victim in this case was initially reluctant to come forward for fear that he would not be believed.

“By telling a trusted adult about what had happened he showed a great deal of bravery — as he has done throughout the legal process.

“Carlisle denied the allegations against him and appeared to gamble that we’d be unable to prove these allegations in court.

“However, thanks to some excellent forensic work we were able to present very clear evidence to the jury that suggested previous sexual activity between the two.

“Carlisle’s subsequent attempts to explain this evidence away were simply not credible and I am pleased the jury agreed.

“He will now spend a very long time in prison where can no longer pose a threat to young people.”
