A man of Montgomery Road, Newark sent from Nottingham Magistrates Court to Crown Court after causing a collision involving several cars at Northgate, Newark




A 21-year-old man has been sent to Crown Court after his charges were considered ‘too serious’ to be dealt with by magistrates.

Alex Matei, of Montgomery Road, Newark, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (October 11), where he pleaded guilty to four charges relating to an incident in Newark that took place on July 23, 2023.

He was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving; using a passenger vehicle with tyres with insufficient tread; being the driver of a vehicle involved in a road accident and failing to report said accident; and failing to give his name and address or the vehicle details.

The incident relates to a serious collision, involving several cars, near the junction of Northgate with Meyrick Road, which left a woman in hospital with serious injuries. Another man was treated in hospital and later released.

Several parked cars were also damaged.

Matei, aged 20 at the time of the accident, was arrested on July 25 and released on conditional bail, with a ban from driving and prohibited from contacting any of the people involved in the accident.

The Magistrate said the charges were too serious for the sentencing to the dealt with by Magistrates Court, and Matei is set to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on December 6.
