Drone footage reveals extent of Orston grass fire which caused homes to be evacuated




Drone footage has revealed the scale of the fire which blazed through multiple fields yesterday (July 18), requiring two fire station crews to tackle the flames.

The fire, in Orston, was first attended by Newark crews at 3.29pm yesterday.

The blaze destroyed an entire field of crops, parallel to Orston and Elton Train Station, and spread through others.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze ­— but it re-ignited later in the evening.

The Bingham crew attended at 8.44pm and again extinguished the large blaze and checked for any further hotspots and pockets of fire.

The fire was captured from above by Leon of LTDroneServices, revealing the scale of the flames ­— burning through multiple fields of crops.

Homes along Station Road were evacuated by police.

Meanwhile, officers closed Station Road at its junctions with the A52 at Elton-on-the-Hill and in the village itself.
