Duchess receives anniversary print

A limited edition print of an oil painting produced by an artist has been presented to the Duchess of Cambridge.

Artist and author Mr Tim O’Brien, of Bingham, who specialises in painting military aircraft, was commissioned to produce two paintings to mark the 75th anniversary of the Air Training Corps.

A print of a painting featuring a montage of celebratory events that took place last year was presented to the duchess during a visit to RAF Wittering.

The duchess, in her role as Honorary Air Commandant of the RAF Air Cadets, was visiting young air cadets at the base who were taking part in their first camp.

A print of Mr O’Brien’s painting was presented by Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty, commandant of the Royal Air Force Air Cadet Organisation.

“I feel very honoured and privileged that the Duchess of Cambridge has received this picture,” Mr O’Brien said.

“My children were excited about it, especially my daughter.

“It’s nice to know your work has been appreciated and has been presented in that way.”

The artist’s other painting depicted the Air Cadets’ flagship celebration parade at RAF Cranwell in August last year.

Mr O’Brien said: “As the air cadets helped launch my aviation art career when I joined as a teenager at RAF Newton in the 1980s, it was great to be invited back to be part of this anniversary year.”

The original paintings will be hung in two separate locations at RAF Cranwell, in the headquarters of the Air Cadets and in the York House Officers Mess.
