Newark and District Round Table and Children’s Bereavement Centre to host first Newark Duck Race on River Trent
Organisations have paired up for what is billed as a brand new event that will feather a charity’s nest.
Newark and District Round Table and Children’s Bereavement Centre have come together to host the first Newark Duck Race on the River Trent.
The two charities are hoping that 1,000 rubber ducks will take part in the race and while this will be a fun-filled afternoon, the event is raising money to help those in need in the local area.
Following the success of the Newark Town Centre Races, Newark Half-marathon and Newark Dragon Boat Race, the two charities hope to bring a new annual race to the town, Newark Duck Race.
Representing Newark and District Round Table, Daniel Otton said, “When we first floated this idea, people thought we were quackers. We just want to carry on the success of community events for Newark On Trent so it really was just water off our backs. We’re looking forward to a race we actually have a chance in as none of us are particularly good at cycling, running or rowing.“
It’s the first time the event has taken place by the picturesque river setting.
The ducks will be released from green foot bridge close to Swan and Salmon and travel to the bridge at The Wharf.
The race is due to begin at 1pm on Sunday October 29. The event is free to attend, but ducks will need to be sponsored before October 29.
You can take part, and even choose your lucky number online. There will be prizes awarded for the quickest ducks to cross the finish line. The first prize is £100 cash with family-friendly vouchers to be won for runners up.
The duck race is being supported by local businesses, event sponsors are The Duck, Swan and Salmon and ISL Digital. Large corporate ducks are also available to be sponsored and decorated by families, groups and companies.
All ducks can be sponsored online here
Newark and District Round Table raise money for local communities, good causes and support local events by volunteering.
Their popular Santa sleigh tour raised over £8,000 last year and some of the local causes that benefit from donations include Newark Women’s Aid, Newark Mencap The Avenue, and Sutton-on-Trent Sports Club.
