Ten mannequins from a Newark company were used on ITV’s X Factor programme on Saturday for a set with Blackpool teenager Aiden Grimshaw, who performed a reworked version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

The celebrity dummies were supplied by Mannakin, on Bowbridge Road.

Mrs Roz Mita, 38, the owner of Mannakin, said it was not the first time they had been asked to supply mannequins for celebrities. In the past they have been used by Lady Gaga, Mika and the Top Gear team.

Mrs Mita said: “We are on target to be the largest mannequin supplier in the country. They are often on television.”

The company, which was a finalist in the Newark Business Awards 2009, is in its third trading year.

Mrs Mita said her mannequins were in constant demand.

She said: “Mannequins to the fashion industry are what oil is to the car industry. I built this company from nothing and I have certainly not seen any dip.”

The company employs ten staff and has about 1,000 models.
