Newark and Sherwood District Council sows more seeds on earth bunds which deter Traveller and Gypsy encampments
More seeds are being sown on earth bunds created to deter Traveller and Gypsy encampments, writes Ella Mather.
Newark and Sherwood District Council created the bunds in areas prone to illegal encampments and they are starting to take shape.
However, there are some areas on the bunds at the top of Beacon Hill, Newark, where the grass seeds haven't taken as a result of dry weather.
The council is continuing to visit the site to help the soil conditions for the grass to grow.
"Those living on and around the top of Beacon Hill in Newark will have seen the number of bunds taking shape this year," said the council.
"The great news is the bunds immediately started serving their purpose, which was to prevent and discourage illegal encampments.
"However, in some parts there have been areas where the seeds have not taken. This is due to the relatively dry weather the district has experienced since they were sown and some challenges in relation to the soil.
"We continue to visit the sites on a weekly basis and where the seeds haven't taken as we would like, we will attend to the bund further, changing the soil conditions in these areas and reseed once more.
"We would like to reassure residents that this is very much work in progress and we won’t stop until we get them looking as we would wish them to be. There are still some more landscaping additions to be added so watch this space."
