Electrocution fears after break-in at sub-station

Police are appealing for information as officers investigate a break-in at an electricity sub-station in Bilsthorpe overnight.

It is believed the sub-station in Kirklington Road, Bilsthorpe, was broken into at around 9.30pm last night (Thursday, 26 May 2016).

Nottinghamshire Police are investigating the circumstances of the break-in, but are presently more concerned about the welfare of those involved.

Evidence at the scene suggests one of those involved in the break-in may have suffered a severe electric shock, resulting in potentially life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported seeing a man and a woman leaving the scene on foot – the man seemingly in an injured state.

The incident resulted in power being lost to a number of properties last night. The power outage occurred at around 9.30pm.

Electrical engineers have advised that, were someone to have suffered an electric shock at the scene, they may have received up to 11,000 volts.

An extensive search of the area took place overnight but was unsuccessful in locating those involved.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “At this time our overwhelming priority is the health and well-being of the people involved in this incident. At this stage we believe someone has suffered an extremely serious injury, the full extent of which they may not yet be fully aware of.

“An electric shock of this nature not only has the potential to cause severe external burns but also serious internal injuries.

“We would urge whoever was involved to call 999 or visit their nearest hospital immediately.”
