Residents consistently tell Newark and Sherwood District Council environment matters
UR residents consistently tell us how important the environment is to them.
Over the last few years, we have given away or planted more than 22,000 trees, introduced electric vehicles to our fleet, committed £55,000 towards ensuring housing developers work with licensed and experienced ecologists when building new homes and now have 19,000 households recycling their garden waste with us.
We have organised nine days of action targeting cleaner, safer and greener issues in different villages and towns, we are in the process of installing solar panels on our own buildings, we have taken part in No Mow May, Recycling Week and The Great British Spring Clean, we have collected more than 1,500 fly tips, issued over 2,000 fixed penalty notices for environmental crimes and last year alone we hit our highest ever recycling rate!
These are just some of our top stories.
There is just so much more that we have done too.
But we definitely won’t be stopping there.
We have plans to plant more trees, organise more days of action, install more solar panels, grow our garden waste recycling service and we are striving to beat our highest ever recycling rate with our new kerbside glass recycling service.
Over the next few weeks households across the district will receive a letter containing important information about our kerbside glass recycling service, so please keep a look out for it.
The service will be free to everyone and it means that you will be able to recycle glass bottles and jars from your kerbside!
We plan to begin delivering bins to households later this year.
We have lots more information about the free service on our website (www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/kerb sideglass)
You can also keep up to date by following us on social media (@NSDCouncil) or signing up to our monthly e-newsletter update via the homepage of our website.
Residents tell us how important the environ-mental agenda is to them and while we’ve done some great things so far, we certainly have lots more coming up too!
