Organised by the Friends of Kneesall Primary, the Halloween environmentally friendly balloon race will take place entirely online.
Children and families are using a virtual balloon race at Halloween to raise money for school resources.
Organised by the Friends of Kneesall Primary, the environmentally friendly race will take place entirely online.
Parent at the school Hannah Yeardley, is also member of the Friends of Kneesall group and said: “It’s an online balloon race where everything is real except the balloon.
“Live weather data will be used to determine the progress of each balloon, and each entry can be tracked on Google Maps after launch. With no plastic waste or litter, we avoid any negative impact on wildlife or the environment.”
Hannah said the money raised will go towards providing opportunities for children, and support purchasing a Trim Trail for the school playground.
“The virtual balloon race will allow the children to take an active role in fundraising for school whilst having fun designing their balloons and tracking their progress over the week-long race. It is also an opportunity for the children to consider and discuss how we can all reduce our impact on the environment.
“Of course, there’s the added excitement that they could win a great prize too.”
Hannah said that she would welcome the community joining in the spooky fun.
“We’d love people in the local community to get behind our fundraiser, -even if they don't have to have a connection to Kneesall Church of England Primary School.
“They can buy a balloon and join in the fun watching their balloon launched from Count Dracula’s castle in Transylvania on 31 st October.”
