Evening parking fee
Evening charges are to be introduced at The Wharf, Appletongate, London Road and Potterdyke carparks in Newark.
The decision, by Newark and Sherwood District Council’s cabinet, to charge £1 from 6pm, will bring in about £12,500 a year.
It was also agreed to charge on Sundays at Potterdyke, London Road and Appletongate carparks in Newark where it is currently free. The charges will bring in £4,500 a year.
A decision on charging holders of the blue disabled drivers’ badges, which would bring in about £15,000, was deferred.
A plan to introduce charges at council-owned carparks in Southwell, where it is free, was also deferred.
Mr David Payne, the portfolio holder for housing and amenities, said a meeting was held with interested parties in Southwell and another was planned for December 20.
Two different scales will be considered.
One is to have the first hour free and the other to charge 50p for that time.
After that motorists would have to pay £1.50 for two hours and £1 every hour after that. It is thought the charges could bring in a maximum of £30,166.
Mr Payne said the Department for Transport had confirmed Nottinghamshire County Council would be responsible for enforcement of on-street parking regulations from May.
The job will be delegated to the district council, which will hire private sub-contractors.
Mr Payne said the introduction of charges would be postponed if there was any delay in this process.
