Extra time to quiz murder suspect

Police have been granted further time to question a 34-year-old man on suspicion of murdering a Newark woman.

The 31-year-old woman was found dead at a house in The Wharf area of the town, at around 7pm on Wednesday 16 March.

A post-mortem examination, carried out yesterday, has concluded the woman died of a head injury.

Following a hearing at Newark Magistrates’ Court this morning police have been granted a 13 hour custody extension, which runs until 11pm tonight.
