Ollerton fairy works her magic to give a good night's sleep
A sleep fairy is working her magic to revolutionise the way parents think about sleep.
Gemma Reynolds is a sleep consultant from Ollerton who believes that sleep deprivation should not be considered the norm for parents.
She said: “We often hear it referred to as a luxury, but sleep is a necessity like food and water.”
Gemma’s business, Hush Little Darling, specialises in gentle and responsive sleep training, and works with children from birth to seven years old.
She was introduced to the method after the birth of her own son, Henry, who she said cried through the night and left both of them exhausted.
When the sleep deprivation got to much for her, Gemma began researching and experimented with the gentle and responsive training.
She claims that within weeks Henry was sleeping through the night and napping well during the day — and she set about helping other parents to achieve the same.
When she was made redundant during lockdown, her passion became a career as she used the opportunity to set up her business.
With training from Sleep Sense, an American company specialising in sleep solutions, Gemma became a sleep consultant and will be fully certified by December.
She has already successfully helped three families, two of whom were in America and Serbia and the other closer to home in Ollerton.
She said: “Sleep is complex, its not one size fits all. I make tailor-made programmes for each family.”
Responsive sleep training encourages parents to comfort their children and stay in the room until they are comfortable, rather than leaving them to cry it out.
Gemma’s Hush Little Darling programmes are three weeks long and provide support and advice for families struggling with sleep.
