Familiar face at Lombard Street Medical Centre to retire after serving more than 30 years as a nurse
A nurse who worked at a medical centre for over 30 years has retired.
Denise Sheppard, 63, of Newark, said she had done her best as a nurse and enjoyed every moment with her patients.
A familiar face to many, Denise started her career at Lombard Medical Centre, on Portland Street, in 1988 as a part-time worker, and made her way up to nurse team leader.
Denise has always wanted to help people in her career and was first trained as a midwife at the old Newark Hospital.
She said she had always enjoyed the job as a midwife but more so as nurse team leader.
“I always tried to make my care individual to the person," said Denise.
“I feel a bit strange and have mixed feelings as I have been here for so long.
“The girls I worked with were nice so, to me, it was a good place to work.”
Practice manager Debbie Swain said Denise was part of the furniture and was very easy to get along with.
“She is always chirpy and hard working, and is someone you can go to if you want to talk. It wont be the same without her,” said Debbie.
