Fire crews from Newark and Collingham Fire Station attended a fire on a property on Parkes Close, Coddington

A devastated family of six has created a GoFundMe page after their house of 15 years was caught on fire and they ‘lost absolutely everything’.

Fire crews from Newark and Collingham Fire Station attended a fire yesterday (August 2) following a call just after 2:30pm.

Upon arrival, smoke was issuing from a property on Parkes Close, Coddington, and the fire was located under the stairs.

The fire was extinguished by the fire service, and the scene was handed over to the national grid for them to isolate the electrics, as the fire was caused by an electrical box.

Amanda Harrison, the mother of four, created the GoFundMe page to raise funds to help replace the furniture and items in their new house.

Amanda said: “The electric box under the stairs blew up it just started to spark and fizzle.

“I was in the kitchen at the time when I heard the noise, I went to look and the box burst into flames, I shouted to the children to get house of the now.

“We left the house with no shoes and rang the firefighters, they were in the house within 10 minutes.

“I could already see the smoke come out of the windows upstairs when the firemen got there, they said it was 301 degrees in the house.”

Amanda and her family had to move into her husband’s parents’ house as Travel Lodge wouldn’t accept them because they had a dog.

“We lost absolutely everything on our house 15 years of building up from scratch, from furniture, curtains, clothes, kids toys, electronics, kitchen utilities, everything.

“When we get our new house we need to start from scratch again, we have four children and a whole house to fill.

“It is so hard after building your home up and then suddenly it’s all gone.

“It’s like being teenagers and moving out again, starting from fresh.”

The British Red Cross was requested to support the family and their pets.
