Family fun day held at Grove Leisure Centre to celebrate Warriors FC's new move
More than 30 football teams took part in a family fun day at Grove Leisure Centre this afternoon.
The event was organised by Warriors FC, in partnership with Active4Today and Newark Academy.
It was held to celebrate the football team’s new move to the fields at the leisure centre in London Road.
Warriors FC, which is a youth football club, use the pitches in School Lane in Claypole but with an increase in members, the club will also be using the Grove Leisure Centre fields from September for the start of the new season.
Martin Picker, facility manager for Warriors FC, said: “The idea of the family fun day was to promote the new leisure centre’s plans in Balderton but also to celebrate our new pitches. We have expanded in teams, we have eight teams and 95 players in total.
“We had 35 teams taking part in the family fun day in just four hours. These were the largest tournaments we have had in such a short amount of time. Teams from Lincoln and Sleaford also signed up.”
Last year it was revealed that a proposed centre in Newark, would replace Grove Leisure Centre, costing £13m.
Recently the football team also launched their new black and white uniform for the team players.
Newark Athletics Club also held activities for families to take part in, while many enjoyed free swimming and free style Frisbee.
