Blidworth farm fire declared major incident with over 15 crews and 75 firefighters in attendance as residents are evacuated
A significant fire on a farm has been declared a major incident by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue.
The fire service received a call at 1.35pm today (July 19) to reports of a fire in the open.
It is one of many incidents across the county, as temperatures hit extremes of 40 degrees.
15 crews, from Edwinstowe, Tuxford, Blidworth, Ashfield, Stockhill, Arnold, Hucknall, Eastwood, Shirebrook, Ilkeston, London Road, Ripley, Bolsover, Clay Cross and Warsop stations are in attendance, with around 75 firefighters at the scene.
On Twitter Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: "We have declared this a major incident as crews from around the county continue to deal with a significant forest fire at a farm on Blidworth Lane."
The Nottinghamshire crews are also being supported by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Residents in Blidworth are being evacuated by authorities as the forest fire continues.
The public is advised to avoid the area and if nearby residents are affected by the smoke they should close doors and windows.
Nottinghamshire Police has closed the Blidworth Lane junction of the A614 while this incident is being dealt with.
