Father and sons jailed for ‘vicious’ Newark assault

A father and his two adult sons have been jailed after carrying out “vicious and sustained” assaults on the same man.

The victim, aged in his 50s, was left with broken legs, knee, jaw and skull after the incidents in Newark on May 17, 2024.

The first of two assaults happened shortly before 9pm in a shop in Meering Avenue when the victim came to blows with 48-year-old Samson Price, who struck him repeatedly with a piece of metal shelving.

Samson Price and his sons, Samson Price Jr and Jessie James Price, have been jailed.

After this assault came to an end, Price’s sons Samson Price Jr and Jessie James Price arrived in a van and chased the victim, cornering him in Wolsey Road where the attack continued.

It was at this point where he sustained his most serious injuries, with the two younger men — watched by their father — striking him repeatedly during a “sustained and brutal” assault.

All three were later identified by CCTV footage and arrested.

After pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, they appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday, March 13, for sentencing.

Samson Price, 48, of Barnby Road, Newark, was jailed for nine years. His sentence included an additional charge of causing grievous bodily harm without intent for the initial assault.

Jessie James Price, 25, of Tolney Lane, Newark was jailed for seven years.

Samson Price Jr, 23, of Welbeck Avenue, Newark, was jailed for six years.

The men were also made the subject of a restraining order banning them from any further contact with the victim.

Detective Constable Robert McGhee, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The victim in this case is a man in his late 50s who posed absolutely no physical threat to any of his attackers at the time they set about him.

“What they did had nothing whatsoever to do with self-defence.

“It was instead an act of wanton violence carried out to punish the victim for his earlier altercation with Price senior.

“Unsurprisingly the victim — who was outnumbered and unable to defend himself — suffered very serious injuries and spent several weeks in hospital as a result of what happened and will now have to live with the life-long consequences of these men’s brutality.

“I am pleased they have now been jailed for this vicious and wholly unnecessary attack, and hope this sentence serves as a reminder to others about the consequences of this kind of violence.”
