Favourite hymns feature in church booklet
Two members of St Peter’s Church, Farndon, have compiled a booklet of favourite hymns and dedications to raise money for the church.
Mrs Judith Wetton, the organist and choirmaster at the church since 1976, and Mrs Wendy Evans, a choir member for more than 30 years, have already raised more than £560 from the sale of the booklets to help pay for repaving outside the church.
The booklet features 45 hymns chosen and dedicated by members of the congregation and villagers. The dedications include one to Mrs Wetton to mark her service to the church. There is also one from Miss Dorothy Smart, great-aunt of James McGuiness from the band, The Wanted.
The booklets will be used throughout the coming year when each of the chosen hymns will be sung and the dedications will be read in church.
There is also historical information about the churchyard, the stained glass windows, and about singing through the ages.
The booklets, which cost £5, will be on sale at St Peter’s Christmas tree festival this weekend.
There will be craft, toy, book, cake and tombola stalls, refreshments, a magician and a visit from Father Christmas.
