Festival up for awards
Newark Festival 2012 has been shortlisted for four awards in this year’s UK Festival Awards.
The festival, organised for Newark Town Council by concert and event organisers the Liz Hobbs Group Ltd, has been shortlisted for the best small festival, best new festival, best family festival and grass roots festival.
The highlight was the Saturday evening concert that featured an impressive line-up headlined by Scouting For Girls.
It was attended by 2,500 people, which was short of what had been hoped for and, as a result, the town council has been warned that it is expected that the event could make a loss of £16,000.
Despite that, it has been seen as a success by the organisers, a view shared by those who attended over the three days of events.
The chief executive of the Liz Hobbs Group, Liz Doogan-Hobbs, is urging people to help the town win the awards by casting votes in support.
She said: “This is a fantastic result for Newark and we are proud to have been a part of such a fun-filled community event.
“Planning is already under way for the Newark Festival 2013 but until then please help to make the Newark Festival the best small; new; family and grass roots festival of 2012 by casting your vote.”
Voting takes place until October 31 at www.festivalawards.com/vote
