A micropub that has offered more than 3,000 different beers from 1,000 different breweries since it opened has been named as one of the top pubs in the country.

Just Beer, in Swan and Salmon Yard, Newark, is one of 16 finalists in the Campaign For Real Ale’s National Pub Of The Year competition.

The pub, which earlier this year was named Nottingham-shire Pub Of The Year, was deemed by judges to have a perfect mix of a great pub’s essential characteristics — atmosphere, décor, welcome, service, value for money, customer mix and quality real ale.

The finals place was announced in the latest edition of the Good Beer Guide.

Nottinghamshire breweries in the guide include: Linear Brewery, of Bingham; Caythorpe Brewery; Funfair, Elston; Handley’s, Barnby-in-the-Willows; Harby Brewery; Mallard Brewery, Maythorne; Maypole, Eakring; Milestone, Cromwell; Newark Brewery; Pheasantry, East Markham; Tom Herrick’s, Carlton-on-Trent.

Newark pubs in the guide are: Just Beer; Fox and Crown, Appletongate; Oscar’s Inn, Baldertongate; Prince Rupert, Stodman Street; and Vaults Cider and Ale House, Northgate.

Also listed are: The Final Whistle, Station Road, Southwell; The Butter Cross, Market Place, Bingham; Horse and Plough, Long Acre, Bingham; Waggon and Horses, Bleasby; Royal Oak, Car Colston; Queen’s Hotel, East Markham; Black Swan, Edwinstowe; Forest Lodge, Edwinstowe; Woodlark Inn, Lambley; Durham Ox, Orston; Chestnut, Radcliffe-on-Trent; Staunton Arms, Staunton-in-the-Vale; Cross Keys, Upton; Olde Red Lion, Wellow.
