Firearms incident in Newark
Armed police officers attended Millgate in Newark last night after reports a woman had been threatened with a firearm.
Police responded just after 8.20pm and arrested a man at an address on Millgate.
Police cordons were in place for several hours after the incident and the police helicopter appeared to be searching the ground from the skies above.
Searches for a weapon continue today.
It is believed the woman and a friend may have been having a disagreement on Millgate, were asked to move on by a man who then went back inside the address and allegedly returned with a firearm which he pointed at her.
Inspector John Fryer, of Nottinghamshire Police, said that no one was injured and no firearms were discharged.
The suspect was taken to Newark Police Station for questioning.
