Southwell and Tuxford firefighters raise thousands in charity car wash

Firefighters from two stations got to work washing cars over the weekend — and raised a huge £2,645 for charity.

Southwell and Tuxford fire stations opened up their yards to the public, armed with sponges and pressure washers, to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity.

From 10am on Saturday, March 29, cars pulled into the stations grubby and out again squeaky clean, in exchange for a donation.

At Southwell there was also a chance to win a raffle prize donated by town businesses.

Firefighters at Southwell’s station collected £1,800 throughout their fundraiser, and a further £845 was raised at Tuxford.

In a post on Facebook, the Southwell crew said: “Firstly, we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported our charity car wash.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Southwell community and surrounding areas, we’ve raised an astonishing £1,800—yes, £1,800. This is absolutely fantastic, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts.”

Tuxford’s post added: “What a day. A big thank you to everyone that came and supported our charity car wash [on Saturday].

“We are pleased to report we raised a massive £845. We were very busy at times so thank you for waiting and being patient.”

Their efforts are in addition to £900 raised by crews at Collingham Fire Station at their car wash on Saturday, March 22.

The Fire Fighters Charity provides life-long support, health, and wellbeing services to every member of the UK’s fire fighting community.

Firefighters in Southwell are already set for their next fundraising challenge, to take place at Southwell Racecourse on July 13, during the Sausage and Cider Festival, where they will take on a ladder climb challenge aiming to climb the equivalent of Mount Everest.
