Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service remain at the fire at Briggs Metals Ltd, Great North Road




Firefighters remain at the scene of a Newark fire after working through the night.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed they are still fighting the fire at Briggs Metals Ltd, Great North Road.

Firefighters have been at the scene since 11.15am.

The Great North Road (A616) remains closed because the incident is still ongoing.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Thank you for your patience while we continue to deal with this incident."

Incident Commander Michael Sharman, of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said six fire engines were present through the night.

Newark and Sherwood District Council also warned road users to avoid the area if possible.

AA traffic news shows the road is closed both ways between Main Street, Newark and the Cattle Market roundabout. The closure is affecting traffic between South Muskham and the Cattlemarket Island.

In its latest update, at 7.02am, it said there was heavy traffic on the A617 northbound at the Cattle Market roundabout.
