Firm bids farewell to electrician after 40 years
An electrician has retired after almost four decades at a Newark firm.
Mr Stephen King, 65, of Winthorpe, joined R.G. McConnell’s, which would later become part of Derry Building Services, in 1978 after serving an apprenticeship as an electrician.
He went from having just a handful of colleagues to around 240 and saw Derry Building Services grow to become a multi-million pound global company.
Mr King worked on a number of projects at the firm including at Center Parcs, the University of Northampton and City Hall, Leicester.
He also installed the electrics at a military training base for Apache helicopter pilots.
'I will miss the people.'
Mr King, who retired as a project engineer, said: “Derry Building Services is a very good employer and very progressive.
“The company has developed massively since I joined and the industry has changed as well.
“I will miss the people. I have made a lot of friends.”
Mr King was presented with a leaving gift in front of his colleagues and his family.
Company director Mr Steve Burley said: “He has always been a pleasure to work with and has delivered some cracking jobs for us.
“We are sorry to see him leave and wish him all the best for the future.”
