Nominations are being sought for this year’s Newark Business Awards, which were officially launched on Monday.

The annual awards ceremony, presented by the Advertiser, aims to celebrate and recognise business success.

The awards, which take place in December, were launched at The Moorings.

There are eight categories — employee of the year; innovation through technology; successful new business; excellence in business; training and staff development; business commitment to the community; business person of the year and business of the year.

The Advertiser’s commercial director, Rachel Mosedale, said the aim was to encourage as many businesses as possible to enter the competition, which includes the chance to win a marketing campaign in the Advertiser worth £4,200.

She said: “It’s easy to enter and there are some real benefits for the businesses. We had more entrants than ever last year and this year we really want to increase the number and get more retailers involved.

“Retailers are an important part of Newark’s business community and we want to encourage them to take part.

“The Advertiser is delighted to be organisers of the area’s premier business event.”

Among those at the launch were representatives of Duncan & Toplis, chartered accountants and business advisers, and Chattertons Solicitors, which sponsor the event.

Mr David Rogerson, a partner at Chattertons, said they were keen to support the business community.

“It’s a way of recognising the extremely good businesses in the town because we have a very vibrant business community. We feel these awards are an excellent showcase for that,” he said.

A partner at Duncan & Toplis, Mr Simon Shaw, said the company felt it was important to recognise excellence in business.

He said: “Every year I’ve seen the awards grow, and the quality of entrants is fantastic.

“Last year was exceptional with a mix of smaller businesses, who in their own right do a fantastic job, and larger businesses, and I’m hoping for the same again this year.”
