A grant of almost £6,000 has been given to Newark Community First Aid from the Big Lottery Awards for All fund.

The money has helped with its equipment appeal to enable volunteers to provide a high standard of cover at several events at the same time.

The group’s logistics manager, Mr Stephen Toyne, said the grant meant they could buy first-aid kits, burns kits, resuscitation equipment including a defibrillator, splinting and spinal immobilisation equipment and an orthopaedic stretcher.

There was also enough money for a mini marquee with chairs and tables to be used as a first aid post or for fundraising events. It was used for the first time at Flintham Show on Thursday.

The first free first-aid course to be run by the group was due to be held in Newark Town Hall last night.

Further courses will be held in Newark on November 6 and December 4, and in Southwell on October 30.

The group can be booked on 07790 300435 or email newarkcommunityfirstaiders@hot mail.com
