The first cohort of pupils is about to leave Chuter Ede Primary School’s Fernwood annexe for secondary school.

The year-six students, who were the first to move into the new school six years ago, will have a leaving day today.

The 29 pupils were the first year group and each time they moved up, another intake enrolled behind them, making this the first academic year the Fernwood site has had a full school.

Year-six teacher Miss Ellie Bramley said: “They are all excited. It has been harder for them because they haven’t experienced anyone to look up to.

“They were the first at the school and are like a part of the furniture so the staff will really miss them.”

The pupils will be going to secondary schools, including Newark Academy, The Suthers School (being built on Fernwood Business Park) Toot Hill School, Bingham, and grammar schools.

The Fernwood school has been in constant development since the children moved there for year one, after attending foundation at Chuter Ede’s Balderton site.

When they first moved in, one of the classrooms was used as the school hall, which hadn’t yet been built.

Miss Bramley said: “The school has continued to grow alongside our year sixes, and we are all proud of the progress they have made throughout their time here.”
