Storm Babet: Flood alerts remain in place on River Devon and River Trent covering Bottesford, Lowdham, Southwell and East Bridgford areas

Flood alerts remain in place on rivers across the Advertiser area after many residents were forced to spend last night away from their homes because of flooding.

Updates on the situation across the area can be found here.

River levels are rising at the Clifton Bridge gauge on the River Trent as a result of Storm Babet, affecting areas around Gunthorpe, Lowdham, and East Bridgford.

The Environment Agency warns that many roads in the area will remain impassable or partially blocked.

River levels have also risen at the Lowdham Grange river gauge on the Trent.

Areas most at risk are low-lying agricultural land and roads around the tributaries of the River Trent like the River Greet, Potwell Dyke, Dover Beck, Cocker Beck, Woodborough Brook, Ouse Dyke, Thurgarton Beck and others.

The Environment Agency warns that heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours so river levels will continue to rise over the weekend.

River levels remain high but are beginning to fall at the Colston Bassett river gauge so flooding of roads and farmland is expected to continue.

The Environment Agency says areas most at risk are low-lying agricultural land and roads along the River Smite. Church Gate and Bunnison Lane in Colston Bassett could be impassable, with potentially dangerous depths of flood water.

Areas around the River Devon could also be affected at Easthorpe, Bottesford, Belvoir Lane and the Woolsthorpe to Belvoir road in Woolsthorpe, Church Lane and Main Street in Muston.

The Environment Agency says: “ We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are patrolling watercourses in the area and liaising with emergency services.

“Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
