Environment Agency issues red flood warning for Newark due to Storm Dennis
The Environment Agency has issued five red flood warning for areas around Newark and Farndon this morning (Monday).
Areas put on high alert for flooding are the River Trent at the British Sugar factory and Kelham Bridge, riverside properties in Farndon including Dorner Avenue and Wyke and Marsh Lane area, Tolney Lane in Newark, and River Trent at Fiskerton Mill including Rolleston Fields, Gorse and Nurseries area.
This is due to rising river levels at the Colwick and Farndon river gauges.
The Environment Agency have urged people to move possession and valuables off the ground or to safety, and have a bag ready with vital items like medicines and insurance documents.
A spokesman said: "We expect river levels to rise until Tuesday. We are closely monitoring the situation.
"Our incident response staff are patrolling watercourses in the area and liaising with emergency services."
River levels remain high, but are beginning to fall at Lowdham Grange river gauge as a result of Storm Dennis, and the risk of flooding remains.
Areas most at risk are low-lying agricultural land and roads around the tributaries of the River Trent in Nottinghamshire, the River Greet, Potwell Dyke, Dover Beck, Cocker Beck and Thurgarton Beck.
A red flood warning is also in place at the River Smite at Aslockton and Whatton.
