Flood warnings in place for the River Trent at Newark and Cocker Beck at Lowdham as further heavy rain forecast




Flood alerts remain in place for the River Trent and its tributaries, with flooding expected in some communities.

A flood alert, last updated yesterday (January 1) remains in place for the River Trent in Nottinghamshire, which warns of possible flooding.

The areas most at risk are low-lying agricultural land and communities near to the River Trent including Shelford, Gunthorpe, Wykes Lane at Farndon, Kelham Road and Tolney Lane at Newark, Caythorpe and Hoveringham.

A flood warning is in place for Tolney Lane and Newark’s riverside marinas.

River levels are expected to remain high for several days, and further rain is forecast.

An alert is also in place for tributaries, with a flood warning in place for the Cocker Beck at Lowdham.

Flooding is expected, and could occur from after midday into this evening (January 2).

Areas most at risk are Lowdham Main Street, Station Road, Merevale, and Limetree Gardens.

Environment Agency incident response staff will be in the village operating pump equipment to reduce flood levels of the Cocker Beck.

River levels expected to remain high until Wednesday (January 3) night, and then begin to fall.

Residents are urged to move possessions and valuables off the ground to keep them safe from floodwater.
