Floods close roads

Motorists are being advised to abide by road closures put in place by the Nottinghamshire County Council due to flooding to prevent damage to their vehicles and resident’s homes.

The following roads have been closed due to flood water:

• Lowdham Lane, Lambley

• Main Street and Station Road in Lowdham

• Main Street, Woodborough.

County council officers are working with the Environment Agency, emergency services and district and borough councils to respond to the flooding.

The county council highways team has been delivering sandbags to Rolleston village in support of Newark and Sherwood District Council and is dealing with drainage issues including emptying gullies in Upton.

A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for rural roads and low-lying land near to the Rivers Trent and tributaries, Lean, Daybrook, Erewash and Soar.

Nottinghamshire County Council's Paul McKay, Service Director and Chair of the Risk Safety Emergency Management Board said: "The Council is focussing on areas most in need and will be keeping a close eye on the weather to respond swiftly to any major issues that emerge.

“We are urging all motorists not drive through roads which we have closed to ensure their safety.”
