Morrison’s florist quits her three-year job to chase her dreams and open her own flower shop in the heart of Newark

A florist has quit her job at a supermarket to chase her dreams and open a flower shop in the heart of Newark.

In just four weeks Pamela Dallimore went from working in Morrisons as a florist, to setting up her own shop and opening it to the public.

Flowers By Pamela opened earlier this month on Chain Lane.

“After looking for several shops for several years, this came up and it turned around quite quickly,” said Pamela.

“It was in the right area that we wanted it to be, so we decided to go for it.

Pamela, who has been a florist since the age of 16, worked a variety of jobs, but says flowers were always her passion.

She said: “With Morrisons all it is is hand tied everyday, so it’s kind of doing things in that box — doing the same everyday.

“I wasn’t doing weddings, I was barely doing any funerals, we were limited to what we could do, to what they could provide.

“I can be more creative with my own shop. There’s so much more I can do now.

“Now I can tell a customer to give me a budget and what they want and I will make it to what the budget allows. That’s important now.”

Pamela says her customers are lovely and supportive, but her husband Jason is her number one supporter.

He said: “I am really proud. We have been talking about opening her shop for years. We looked into six or seven shops, but this seemed to be the right one.”

Pamela said the work was a mix of stressful but relaxing and seeing customers pleased with their flowers was the most rewarding part.

“I love doing unusual things, things out of the box and it’s nice because the comments that I get from customers is that it is different and that’s what I want to be,” Pamela said.
