Newark: Sweetpea Flowers by Design to make the move into former Happy Sundaes unit on Church Street

A florist in Newark town centre is making the move into a larger unit — just next door.

Sweetpea Flowers by Design said the expansion into the former Happy Sundaes unit on Church Street was an opportunity the business could not miss.

"When the space became available we just had to go for it and it means we keep our location, which we love," said owner Melanie Slack.

The former Happy Sundaes unit will be the home to Sweetpea Flowers by Design from March 1.

"It will add a bit more space that will help our customer experience and means we’ll be able to sell more products like chocolates and candles.

“The extra space also means we’re able to provide a permanent space to provide flower-making workshops on the top floor. My colleague Bonnie Mitchell runs her own calligraphy business, Laney’s Letterings, and she’ll be able to provide workshops for that too.

“We’ll be opening on March 1 but we aim to have a nice opening ceremony once lockdown is over and invite all our customers to take a look at our new store then.”

Keith Girling, Newark and Sherwood District Council economic development committee chairman, said “It’s great news to see Sweetpea Flowers expanding their store and moving into a bigger unit next door.

“Local businesses are vital to the Newark economy and this new expansion will be hugely beneficial to customers and the business owner. It’s encouraging to see that despite the difficult times we have had in the past 12 months a local business is moving into a bigger space.”
