Food hygiene Newark and Sherwood: How have restaurants, pubs, takeaways and firms performed in 2014 inspections?
Several restaurants, pubs, takeaways, hotels and firms in the Newark and Sherwood area have been inspected by the district council, on behalf of the Food Standards Agency, this year.
They are ranked 0-5, based on how closely they meet requirements of food hygiene law. Zero (urgent improvement necessary) is the worst ranking, while five (very good) is the best.
The rankings are based on three factors:
- How hygienically the food is handled (how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored).
- The condition of the structure of the buildings (the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities).
- How the business manages and records (what it does to make sure food is safe).

The Crown Inn, Bathley, was originally included in the list of businesses which were awarded one star. We would like to make clear that the Crown Inn received five stars. The incorrect rating was caused by an IT error at Newark and Sherwood District Council, which supplies the information to the Food Standards Agency, and has since been corrected. We apologise for any confusion caused.
