Retail changes are afoot for Newark with one national chain due to open but a big high street name set to be lost from the town.

Iceland is expected to open on London Road in March, but The Body Shop on Stodman Street will close at the end of February.

It is believed Iceland will move into the former Netto store.

A spokesman confirmed a store was set to open on London Road and said more details would soon be available.

Iceland was previously on Stodman Street, in premises that are now Accessorize and Monsoon, and closed in 2005 after 24 years in the town.

A spokesman for The Body Shop confirmed the store would close as it was no longer financially viable.

She said the closure would make way for the brand’s new The Body Pulse Boutiques in Nottingham and Derby planned to open this month month and May respectively.

She said The Body Shop would endeavour to relocate staff.

In another change, Yeomans Outdoor Leisure is preparing to move from Cartergate as its lease there has ended. It is expected to move to another site in town, but this is yet to be agreed.

l Parking charges at the NCP carpark at St Mark’s Place have been reduced to 10p per ten minutes for the first three hours, then £3.50 for three to 24 hours.
