A football club has expressed its pride after seeing pictures of nurses and doctors wearing its self-funded PPE.

Bingham Town FC pulled in more than £2,500 in its first 24 hours of fundraising for front line workers, as the local community quickly came together to support.

After taking the total to over £5,000, an order for 4,000 protective face shields was made. And now, two weeks later, they are being used by health care workers on the front line.

“It is really pleasing to see we are helping people on the front line,” said Mark Boyes, a coach at the club.

“We hope that our little bit can make a big difference. That is why we are doing this.”

So far, more than 2,400 masks have been delivered to Bingham and East Bridgford-based surgeries and first responders, Nottingham City Hospital, Ling’s Bar Hospital,West Bridgford, and further orders are set to go to Lincoln Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham.

Players from the club have been out to personally make the deliveries.

Staff from Ling’s Bar Hospital thanked the players and sent the club pictures of the masks in use, as some of the donated equipment has not been fit for practise.

“Some were saying that they had a lot of stuff given to them, but not all of it was usable,” said Boyes.

“So when we got the specs (from Queen’s Med) we were able to make sure we could get the correct equipment.”

The club’s running donation stands at £5,477 and, despite slowing down after an initial boom, Boyes said they would still make orders if further donations were to come in.
