Community interest group Yasmine McClory Foundation, based in Sutton-on-Trent, hosting five-a-side football tournament

Those wishing to support a newly-established community interest group can do just that by having a kick-about in an upcoming tournament.

The Yasmine McClory Foundation was launched last year in memory of Yasmine McClory, of Sutton-on-Trent, who died suddenly in February 2024 as a result of pulmonary embolism, likely caused by her being ten weeks pregnant which was undiagnosed at the time.

The foundation was created by her parents, Annelie and Jason, and siblings Jess and Ev in May 2024 to keep Yasmine’s memory and her legacy alive by supporting causes she was passionate about, including food poverty, mental health, the LGBTQ+ community, and children with learning disabilities.

The foundation became a CIC [community interest company] as opposed to a charity so they’d be able to support multiple causes instead of just one as charities do.

To continue their efforts to support local causes that need them most, the foundation has announced a five-a-side football tournament taking place in June 14, and groups and businesses are invited to enter teams to do their bit for the causes that meant so much to Yasmine.

The tournament will be held at Sutton-on-Trent Football Club, kick off at 11am, with a maximum of 10 players in a team and registration is £50 per team.

Teams interested in participating can sign up by scanning the QR code in the poster below, or by visiting the official event page: https://www.yasminemccloryfoundation.org.uk/football-tournament

This event aims to bring the community together for a day of spirited competition while raising funds to support the Foundation's initiatives.

Each half will be 15 minutes in length, working as a straight knockout format, with early rounds on three pitches to ensure continuous play, culminating in a third-place play-off to determine the bronze medalists.

Teams will also compete for several accolades, including trophies for the champions, runners-up, and third place, Player of the Tournament, and the Golden Boot winner.

Spectators are welcome to come and cheer on their local team with food and refreshments available all day.

“This tournament is more than just a football competition,” said Jess McClory, Yasmine sister, “It's an opportunity for the community to unite in support of the Yasmine McClory Foundation's mission to address food poverty and promote young people's health and well-being.”

Jess added that the tournament is an emphasis sportsmanship, and any unsportsmanlike conduct will result in a three-minute sin bin, with persistent offenders facing substitution and suspension from subsequent matches.
