Footballer Marlon King admits dangerous driving
Shamed footballer Marlon King could be facing a third stint behind bars after admitting his part in a three-car smash that saw another motorist airlifted to hospital.
The former Premier League striker, who is currently without a club, crashed his Porsche Panamera on his 33rd birthday while travelling on the A46 near Newark last April.
Two other vehicles, a Vauxhall Astra and a Volkswagen Polo, were involved in the incident, which left a 35-year-old driver needing treatment for a broken arm. Others suffered whiplash injuries.
King, of Torksey, Lincs, was due to go on trial at Nottingham Crown Court charged with dangerous driving after denying the offence at an earlier hearing.
But he changed his plea to guilty before a jury could be sworn.
King, who last played for League One club Sheffield United, was released on bail to be sentenced on May 2.
He has a lengthy criminal record, and has twice been jailed for 18 months; in 2008 for sexually assaulting and causing actual bodily harm to a student who rejected his advances in a London bar in 2008, and in 2002 for handling a stolen car.
The maximum prison sentence for dangerous driving is two years.
